When you moved into the dorm you should have been given the following to help you connect to the internet:

•A DSL modem
•A phone cable
•An ethernet cable

1. Plug one end of the phone cable into the splitter that's in the phone jack on the wall and the other into the back of the modem.

2. Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the other hole in the back of the modem and the other into one of the ports on the switch. It shouldn't matter which one you plug it into.

3. Plug the power cables into the modem and switch.

4. Hook your ethernet cable into your computer and into one of the ports on the back of the switch.

If this is your first time connecting to the ASU network, you'll be required to register your computer with the network before you can go online. However if you have already registered your computer, you should be able to get online at this point.

Wireless in the Dorms

There is currently no wireless access provided by ASU in Justice and personal wireless networks are not allowed. Because of this, the university does not support the use of these personal wireless networks and will not troubleshoot them. The best way to make sure that you get a stable connection to the network is to plug directly into the wall jack in your room. If after doing that you still can't get a connection, try the simple steps below.

Can't get a Connection? Try these steps first

•Check to make sure that the filter which splits into your phone line and DSL line is plugged in. This will help you get a better connection.
•Check that all cables are plugged in to your computer, the router, and the switch, and that all lights are properly lit up.
•Reboot the switch by unplugging the power cable and leaving it unplugged for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and wait for the lights to come back on and retry accessing the internet.
•Reboot the modem by unplugging the power cable and leaving it unplugged for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and wait for the lights to come back on and retry accessing the internet.
•In Windows: Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections -> Network Connections Check for any status messages in the details about an unplugged connection and check that the network connections are not disabled. Try repairing the connection by right clicking on the connection that you're using and then clicking repair
•Reboot your computer and see if that solves the problem.
